Around Mont Ventoux
From foothill villages to the landscapes of Sault and the Nesque
Mont Ventoux provides a horizon for the villages and landscapes around it. It can be approached through the houses of Bédoin and Malaucène, the heights of Le Barroux, the lavender of Sault or the landforms of the Nesque.
This trail offers five views around the mountain, bringing together photographs from the Horizon Provence archives and linking to the full reports for a closer exploration of each place.
1. Bédoin: a village before the mountain

In Bédoin, the mountain rises behind the village silhouette. Houses, the church tower and cultivated land give a human scale to the broad landscape.
The report explores the village and its connections with Ventoux, alternating distant views with details discovered while walking through the streets.
2. Malaucène: streets at the foot of Ventoux

Malaucène offers a closer exploration of houses, squares and passageways. The village provides another starting point for looking at the landscapes around Ventoux.
The photographs lead from a panorama of rooftops to lanes and fountains, allowing time to appreciate the village in its own right.
3. Le Barroux: a pause among the lanes

In Le Barroux, the château first catches the eye, but the streets and façades extend the visit. The village leads from broad landscapes to details of the stonework.
This stop also connects with the castles and fortresses trail. The same place can be explored through its architecture or through its landscape.
4. Sault: the village and the lavender

In Sault, the photographs combine the village silhouette with the open landscapes around it. Lavender fields give some views a distinctive colour and rhythm.
The report continues into the village and explores other aspects of this stop, among houses, horizons and local activities.
5. The Nesque gorge: landforms in the foreground

In the Nesque gorge, cliffs and slopes fill the view. The photographic walk leaves the villages to open out into a more rocky landscape.
This final stop extends the exploration of the Ventoux area through its landforms. The report offers several views of the gorge and its surroundings.
