Provence’s light, façades, landscapes and scenes of everyday life inspire Anne-Marie Descotes-Genon’s watercolours. This earlier portrait presents a selection of her work.
Provence as a source of inspiration
Anne-Marie Descotes-Genon travelled through Provence to find subjects for her watercolours. The works brought together in this feature reflect her attention to places and light.
Her subjects are varied: landscapes, interiors, still lifes, portraits and seascapes. This variety is reflected in the framing and composition of her paintings.
From one work to the next, the artist changes her viewpoint, moving from a façade detail to an expansive landscape.

The watercolourist’s touch and sensitivity
Her line is lively, considered and precise, complementing the transparency of watercolour.

Technique serves sensitivity: the artist captures an atmosphere, a particular light or a moment of everyday life.

Trained in the arts in Grenoble, Anne-Marie Descotes-Genon explored pottery, theatre and oil painting before focusing on watercolour. This portrait was made in Aubignan in the Comtat Venaissin. She notably illustrated Le Comtat Venaissin: entre Dentelles et Ventoux, published in 2006 with texts by Jacqueline Brotte.
