The Monday morning weekly market in Forcalquier is an institution. It is the most important market of all the department of the " Alpesde Haute Provence", and is for sure one of the most living and beautiful market of Provence. This sunny Easter Monday is specially a crowded day, this holiday is for many the opportunity to come.
People come from far away to stroll between the market stalls, the animation is communicative, and the diversity of the products exposed is very tempting : local products, materials, earthenware, clothes, and many others. Regulars customers come early in the morning by 8 a.m. to avoid the crowd. The numerous tourist come later in the morning.
Tradition of the Forcalquier’s market dates back to ancient times. Since early Middle Ages, the church has also the name of Notre Dame du Marché. The stalls stand on the central Place du Bourguet, on both sides of the main road passing trough the city, they spread widely in the old city and the adjacent streets and squares.
