On the ¨Place Pie" in the
historical centre, a spectacular Green Wall covers the
northern frontage of Avignon's covered market. This living construction
has been created in 2005 by Patrick Blanc, botanist and researcher. With
11,5 meters high and 30 meters width, this modern and recent work is already
reknown.
The Green Wall changes
colors with the seasons, he ripples with the breeze, he moves fidgety
under the Mistral's blusts, he welcomes pigeons who comes here to get
fresh water. The water, charged with nutrients drips from the top of the
partition and maintain a constant moisture rate. Unlike the impression
that we have watching the building, the plants are not directly climbing
the facade of the building, they are clutching to PVC leaves hung to a
metal frame, slightly separated of the façade.

Many visitors strolling over Avignon
come to admire the Green Wall, as it is now a great
stopover amids the numerous monuments of the City of the Popes.
